Day 4: Sister Cities

6 Jul

It is a truth universally acknowledged that women in possession of a short drive will have more to do and blog about in a day but less time to actually do it. Sorry about the delay but there was just too much to do in the sister cities of Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA to blog about it properly yesterday.

We started our day 4 at the house of my aunt and uncle in Hanahan. We were hospitably provided a delicious and filling breakfast that included southern staples such as cheese grits (yum) and shrimp. Once we got ourselves going we found we had waited far too long and it was the hottest part of the day… Luckily, we were going to the beach but nothing would satisfy until we were in the warm waters at folly beach. There was some swimming, floating, laying, and uneven burning/tanning (hmm…randi) and this also happened:

After some showers (who knew so much sand could be hidden in hair and stuck to your face) we proceeded down highway 17 toward savannah. For an only 2 hour trip quite a bit happened. We received a gift ( thanks aunt cindy!) which will no doubt provide many hours of ridiculous illogical arguments:

We found the best peach and blackberry cider at a cute store on the side of the road:

and we also picked up some pretty sweet SC soft drinks to cool us on our way (we are not spokespeople for either Blenheim or cheer wine):

We descended into the beautiful riverfront city of savannah around sunset:

Once there we decided to find some food and ended up at jazz’d, a tapas bar with the crooning of Trey Gurly, who sounded like Frank Sinatra and looked like Harry Connick Junior (luckily not a cowboy to be casually kissed). We then found ourselves at The World of Beer because of the promise of delirium tremens and the sounds of Each and Every Opus (which has a female ukulele player who I want to be my new best friend).

Unfortunately the band had to finish their set sorta early, so we meandered back toward our hotel on east bay street. As is want to happen when you’re destined for bed before a ridiculously long drive to Pensacola, FL the next day, we were drawn to the awesome dive bar, bay street blues, mostly due to the sweet strains of crossroads and the offer of fried macaroni and cheese, which both gabby and tori partook of with the lead singer while the lead singer was playing and singing. A good time was had by all as we vandalized the wall (look out n’awlins) and chilled with the band:

[…] We finally got on the road and drove our last long drive to Cedar City. We checked into our KOA and ate dinner at the cutest pizza place anywhere (and tagged a wall as per our tradition).  […]
